Golden Triangle Tour — 4 Days, 3 Nights
Overview
The 4-day Golden Triangle tour is our most popular India trip — and the ideal first visit. In four days you’ll watch the sun rise over the Taj Mahal, explore Mughal forts in Delhi and Agra, and discover the pink palaces of Jaipur, all privately guided at a comfortable pace.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arrive in Delhi
Your guide welcomes you at Delhi airport or station and transfers you to your hotel. Delhi has been the seat of empires for over a thousand years — from the Delhi Sultanate to the Mughals and the British Raj — and that layered history is the thread running through the days ahead. After settling in, the day is yours; if you’re up for it, your guide can arrange a gentle first taste of India, perhaps a stroll through a nearby market, to ease you into the city’s rhythm.
- Private welcome & hotel transfer
- Help settling in
- Optional evening market stroll
Delhi sightseeing, then drive to Agra
After breakfast, explore both faces of the capital. In Old Delhi, the Jama Masjid — India’s largest mosque, completed by Shah Jahan in the 1650s — overlooks the lanes of Chandni Chowk, the 17th-century bazaar laid out by his daughter Jahanara (an optional cycle-rickshaw ride brings it to life). Close by stands the Red Fort, the Mughals’ fortified seat of power and the place from which India’s Prime Minister still addresses the nation each Independence Day. In New Delhi you visit Humayun’s Tomb, the 1570 garden-tomb whose Persian-Mughal design was the direct forerunner of the Taj Mahal, and the soaring Qutub Minar, a 73-metre victory tower begun in 1193 to mark the dawn of Muslim rule in India, pausing at the India Gate war memorial along the way. In the afternoon, drive to Agra on the Yamuna Expressway (about 3.5–4 hours) and check in.
- Jama Masjid & Red Fort (Old Delhi)
- Chandni Chowk bazaars
- India Gate & Humayun’s Tomb
- Qutub Minar
- Drive to Agra
Sunrise Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri → Jaipur
Begin at dawn with the Taj Mahal at sunrise — the white-marble mausoleum Shah Jahan raised between 1632 and 1653 for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World — at its most serene before the crowds arrive. After breakfast, tour Agra Fort, the red-sandstone royal citadel from which the Mughals ruled much of India and where Shah Jahan spent his final years, reputedly gazing across the river at the Taj. Then drive towards Jaipur (about 4.5 hours), stopping at Fatehpur Sikri, the flawlessly preserved capital Emperor Akbar built in 1571 and abandoned barely 15 years later for lack of water. Arrive in Jaipur by evening.
- Sunrise at the Taj Mahal
- Guided tour of Agra Fort
- Fatehpur Sikri en route
- Arrive Jaipur
Jaipur sightseeing & return to Delhi
Spend the day in the Pink City, so called after it was washed terracotta-pink to welcome the Prince of Wales in 1876. Ascend to the hilltop Amber Fort, the Rajput stronghold of the Kachhwaha kings; photograph the Hawa Mahal, the 1799 ‘Palace of Winds’ whose 953 lattice windows let royal women watch the street unseen; pause at the lake-set Jal Mahal; and explore the City Palace, still home to Jaipur’s royal family, and the Jantar Mantar, an 18th-century royal observatory and UNESCO site with the world’s largest stone sundial. Leave time for Jaipur’s famed textiles, gems and handicrafts before driving back to Delhi (about 5–5.5 hours) for your onward journey.
